Dan Talbert, Director of Bands, Tokay High School, Lodi, CaliforniaHe served as Principal Trombone with the Fresno Philharmonic, Imperial Valley and Maui Symphonies.

He also plays jazz trombone, working with a variety of professional musicians, including Bill Watrous, Ed Shaughnessey, Louie Bellson, Little Richard, and the Four Tops. He is currently a member of Cell Block Seven, based in Lodi, California.

Mr. Talbert has studied conducting with Dr. Larry Sutherland, Jan van der Roost, Fred Fennel, and John Bourgouise.

He moved to Lodi in 2006 after serving as the Director of Bands at Madera High School for six years where, under his direction, the band grew from 90 to 300 members and traveled twice to Hawaii, as well as the Portland Rose Festival.

Mr. Talbert’s philosophy: “I believe that music is for everyone! You don’t have to be a great player to be in my bands. Just have a good attitude and be willing to give it your best effort. My goal at Tokay is to establish a well-rounded music programs, that includes concert, jazz and marching bands, choir, orchestra, and music theory. I will work to increase the size of the band and, hopefully, make the Royal Regiment a leader in the field of marching and concert bands within five years.”
